James Arthur Hill, 78, of Atchison, KS died on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the Atchison Hospital.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery with Fr. Meinrad Miller officiating. No Visitation will be held. The Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences to the family may be left online at

James was born on April 15, 1940 in Bemidji, MN the son of John and Ardell (Nelson) Hill. Mr. Hill is a retired U.S. Army veteran earning a Purple Heart during his two tours in Vietnam. He served as a Military Police Officer, Police Officer in Lansing, KS, and Security at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Leavenworth. Mr. Hill was a lifetime VFW member in Grand Rapids, MN and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, quilting and family time.

He was married to Judith L. Jetland on Jan 8, 1970. She preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 2008. His parents, brothers Jack and Tim Hill and sister Becky Brown also preceded him in death. Survivors include his sons, Mark (Christine) Hill, Isanti, MN and James H. “Scooter” (Sarah) Hill, Atchison, KS, his daughters, Mitzi (Todd) Mielke, Marysville, WA and Monica Hill, St. Francis, MN, a sister Terri Saleture, Grand Rapids, MN, Grandchildren , Sara, Maddi, Ian, Ryan, Randi, Rae Anna, Isaiah, Benjamin, Dylan, Molly and Emma, Great Grandchildren, Henry, Logan and Evelyn.
