Five years ago, my sister Diane and I decided to take our mother back to Atchison for a visit. It was Diane's 40th high school anniversary (1973-2013). Anytime Mom was in Atchison, she always made a point of getting together with old friends: Annie Sowers, Esther Scott, and Isabelle Willmeth. We also drove by to see Karen McConnahey and Kathy Eylar. The three of us went to Carol B for church that weekend on Sunday, Juy 14, 2013. We attended the morning worship service, then the church hosted a lunch for us. After lunch, there was another service at 1:00 PM in lieu of an evening service. I went to that service alone, but behind me sat Isabelle Willmeth and Minnie Graves. I was telling them about how I had made contact with Dr. Terry W. York, a music professor at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, who grew up in our church at Carol Baptist in Atchison. I was also telling the ladies about the books Terry had written and explained that I had one with me entitled, "Observing the Rests." Isabelle was very interested in the book and wanted a copy of it, so I agreed to give her my copy right then and there. In turn, she agreed to mail me a copy of a song she had written back in 1967 entitled, "I Love the Lord (More and More Each Day)." I had NO idea that Isabelle had ever written lyrics to a Christian song. The words are beautiful and are a tribute to Isabelle's testimony and her love for the Lord:
1. Lord make my life a life for Thee to live
Make of my strength more strength to give
Thou friend of friend, my leader be
I give my all my all in all to Thee.
Chorus:
I love the Lord more and more each day
I praise his name ev'ry step of the way
He made a path for me to walk along
He put a pray'r in my heart, In my mouth He put a song.
2. Lord take my will and let it be
Consecrated more to thy will, I ask of Thee
On bended knees, before thy throne
I wait thy blessing bless me Holy One.
3. Help me to help, where ever there is need
Let me be kind in heart and word and deed
Father this day lead me I pray
Guide Thou my steps in wisdom's wondrous way.
4. I see heav'ns door open wide
I see the Savior standing there inside.
With outstretched hands waiting patiently
To welcome home the saints to live eternally.
