Jessie Louise Vandeloo, 99, of Atchison, KS died on Sat. March 17, 2018 at the Gran Villas, Atchison.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Craig A. Lantz officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 20th at the funeral home. Memorial contribution ‘s are suggested to the Atchison Hospital Hospice or St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Jessie was born on Feb. 26, 1919 in Bendena, KS the daughter of John and Leatha (Myers) Armstrong. She graduated from Bendena High School in 1937 and worked for a short time as a cook for Central School. Jessie retired after 25 years as a clerk and service manager for the local Sear’s Store. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, the Meadowlark Club and enjoyed fishing, farming and riding horses. She received her wish to ride a horse again at the age of 97 and was featured in a Globe article about that experience provided for her by the Atchison Hospital Hospice.

She was married to Harold J. Vandeloo on Jan. 11, 1940 in Bendena, KS. Mr. Vandeloo preceded her in death on Jan 2, 1996. Survivors include two sons, Harold L.(Mary) Vandeloo, Atchison, KS, Charles E. (Pam) Vandeloo, Utica, NE, a daughter, Sharon L. Krick, Knox, IN, eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, and a sister, Ruby Handke, preceded her in death.
