Mary Winifred ‘Wini’ McClellen, 90, of Manhattan, KS, formerly of Atchison, KS, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Via-Christi Village in Manhattan.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison, with Rev. Robert Ziegler, officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison. Family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation or Trinity Lutheran Church Music program. Words of sympathy and remembrance may be left online at beckerdyer.com. The Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, is entrusted with her arrangements.

Mary Winifred Palmer was born on February 18, 1927 in St. Joseph, MO, the daughter of Edmund and Amanda (Bramhall) Palmer. Wini graduated from Atchison High School in 1945; she attended Pittsburg State University and received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Music from Baker University, Baldwin, KS; Wini received her Masters Degree in Music from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. Wini taught in the music department at Atchison County Community High School, Effingham, for thirty-three years and gave private lessons to numerous organ and piano students.

Wini held several professional memberships with many local and national music organizations including: ACTA (Atchison County Teachers Association); KNEA (Kansas National Education Association); NEA (National Educators Association); MENC (Music Educators National Conference) and KMEA (Kansas Music Educators Association); American Guild & Organists; ADK; SAI; MTNA (Music Teachers National Association); and American Hand Bell Ringer Director. Wini had also been a flute instructor for the Mount Conservatory of Music, Atchison; had served on the Liturgy Committee of Christ Episcopal Church, St. Joseph, MO; and served as the instrumental director at Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison, where she directed four hand bell choirs, and played the organ for Sunday services for many years. Wini had also been a cellist for the St. Joseph Symphony and with the Benedictine Orchestra.

Wini and Arthur Easterday were married on October 13, 1946; they divorced in 1978. Wini then married James McClellen on September 23, 1978; James preceded Wini in death on August 16, 1998. Wini is also preceded by her parents; stepson, Michael McClellen; brother, Lewis Palmer; and a sister-in-law, Bettye Palmer.

Survivors include a son, Steve Easterday, Manhattan; daughter, Lynn (Easterday) Graham, Sykesville, MD; stepson, Ross McClellen; stepdaughter, Pamela Dorton; stepdaughter-in-law, Kathleen McClellen; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; nephews, Rick, Mick, Curt, and Greg Palmer.
