Obituary for Dennis Joseph Thummel

Dennis Joseph Thummel, 50 of Atchison, KS, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Atchison Hospital, Atchison, KS.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison, KS, with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow at Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, MO. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Memorials are suggested to help defray funeral cost and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Dennis was born on January 28, 1967 in Atchison, KS, the son of Dennis and Alice (Strawhacker) Thummel. He was a handyman. Dennis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pastor’s Bible Class and Iron Men’s group at the church. He also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Dennis enjoyed cutting grass, fishing, grilling and collecting treasure “junk”.

Dennis married Nancy Foster on April 13, 2002. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his father, Dennis and wife Jo Thummel, Camerson, MO, two sons; Ryan (Shayna) White, Atchison, KS, Brandon (Heather) Thummel, Atchison, KS, three daughters; Miranda Thummel, Paola, KS, Chelsea Thummel, Atchison, KS, Destiny Thummel of the home, three brothers; Robert (Julie) Boatright, Leavenworth, KS, August Thummel, Topeka, KS, George Thummel, Atchison, KS, nine grandchildren, Brayten, Braylee Bush, Connor, Evan Thummel, Allyson, Mariska, Amanda, Kaleb, Adalynn White, and numerous other family members.

He was preceded in death by his mom and two sisters; Debbie Calhoon and Alice “Missy” Roets.
