Obituary for Mary S Dyer (Daniel)

Mary S Dyer (Daniel)
Mary S. (Daniel) Dyer, age 105 of Muenster, formerly of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, Kansas with Rev. Keith Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery in Rushville, Missouri. A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM, prior to the funeral, at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Rushville Christian Church.
Mary was born in the Bean Lake neighborhood of Rushville, Missouri on October 15, 1910 to Lyman Everett and Mahala (Kirkpatrick) Daniel. She started her first schooling at the Hutson School in that community. In 1919 the family moved to Rushville where her father was a rural letter carrier. Mary attended grade school in Rushville and graduated from Atchison High School in Atchison, Kansas. After graduation she went to Atchison Cosmetology School in St. Joseph, Missouri. She received her Missouri and Kansas license and worked in Atchison for several years. In 1934 she was united in marriage to Leonard Dyer at the home of Rev. E.C. Beard. They made their home in Rushville. During WWII she was appointed postmistress of the Rushville post office. She resigned when her husband became a letter carrier at that office (after the war). In 1948 she was blessed with a baby girl, Virginia (Ginger) Dyer. In 1954 she had polio and Mary spent many years at the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis. Ginger married and had two children. After Ginger passed away in 1973, Mary turned her attention and love to her two grandchildren. They spent much of their time with her. Due to her husband’s health they moved to St. Joseph in 1979. They went to the farm at least three or four times a week, and after his death Mary continued to spend time at the farm. She loved the beauty of the trees and seeing the crops grow. She was a member of Rushville Christian Church and was the treasurer for several years. She was also a member of Queen Ester and Loyal Sons Class and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. After her granddaughter Hayle's marriage to Tom Dangelmayr in 1995, Mary began extended visits to her granddaughter's home. She helped raise her great grandsons, always stayed busy with laundry, meal preparation and of course rocking babies and reading them books. In July of 2006 she lost her grandson Joey, who passed suddenly in his sleep. Mary then made Texas her permanent home and sold her St. Joseph, Missouri townhouse. She loved the Texas sun and getting to watch her great grandsons growing. Rain or shine every Thursday she got her hair done and was ready for the weekend activities. Make up on and impeccably dressed she would climb on to her scooter and go. Granny read her bible faithfully every night before bed {which was often midnight}! It has only been in recent months that Granny slowed down, entered the Muenster hospital in July and passing. Granny lived a full life and brought joy to everyone she met; people were instantly drawn to her and fascinated by her stories. She loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.
Mary is survived by her: son-in-law, Joseph and wife Kathie Fenton of Muenster, TX; grandchildren: Hayle and husband Tom Dangelmayr of Muenster, TX and Eric and Jennifer Bayer of Thackerville, OK; great grandchildren: Eli, Cody, Kyle, and Kevin Dangelmayr of Muenster, TX; and niece Julie and husband Jim Christian of Atchison, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard D. Dyer, parents, Lyman Everett and Mahala (Kirkpatrick) Daniel, daughter, Virginia Fenton, siblings: Mayme and husband Ed Hiner and L.E. and LaVeta Daniel, and grandchild, Joey Fenton.
