Frances” Kay” Norton, 74, of Atchison KS died Wednesday, Dec. 2nd, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am on Monday, Dec. 7th, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in the Nortonville Cemetery, Nortonville, KS. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran School Grant Fund or Atchison Hospital Hospice and may be sent in care of the Becker Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Kay was born on April 9, 1941 in Maple Hill, KS the daughter of Richard “Ike” and Cleone (Shasteen) Nieman. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1959. Kay worked as a sewer for Golden Star Mop Manufacturing for over 27 years, retiring in 2004. She then worked for Benedictine College serving Pizza to the students. Kay also sewed leather pouches for several years for the Berger Company. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, serving in the Eight to Eight Prayer Ministries. She also attended many TEAM classes, brought several people to Adult Inquirers Class and was a member of Pastor’s Bible Class. Kay enjoyed cooking, sewing, being outdoors, traveling and especially babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was married to Byron William “Bill” Norton on May 26th, 1962 . Mr. Norton preceded her in death on March 21, 2011. Survivors include two daughters: Lisa (Todd) Knowles, Atchison, KS and Shari Wagner, Atchison; a brother, Burton Nieman, Grand Junction, CO, Five grandchildren: Kara (Dillan) Soph, Krista (Justin) Hall, Kelcy Knowles, Cody, Cole Wagner, all of Atchison and three great grandchildren; Adriana ,Claire, and baby Liam Her parents, husband Bill, and three brothers, Loren, Keith, and Howard Nieman, preceded her in death.
