Jack Holbrook Reichart, 92, of Atchison, KS passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the Atchison Senior Village.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 1:30 pm at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy J Kollhoff, officiating. Burial will follow in the Muscotah (KS) Cemetery. Family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service (12:30 – 1:30 pm) at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Atchison United Methodist Church or the Atchison Hospital Hospice and may be left in care of the funeral home. Jack Reichart was born on October 25, 1926 in Arrington, KS, the only child of Miles and Rose Marie (Holbrook) Reichart. Jack grew up in the Valley Falls, KS area and graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1944. While there Jack played varsity basketball and ran track. After graduating, Jack enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Pharmacist Mate from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. After returning home, Jack graduated from the University of Kansas in 1950 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Education. Phog Allen was his teacher in 3 of his classes while he was there. In the spring of 1951 Jack coached and taught Social Studies at Haddam (KS) High School. His career was cut short as he was called back into military service for the Korean Conflict from 1951 – 1952. After his father became very ill, Jack returned home to run the family farm and care for his father.

On August 24, 1956 Jack and Janie (Bowles) Kelly were married. Jack returned to teaching and taught for one year at Reserve, KS before returning to teach again at Haddam, KS. While at Haddam, Jack earned his Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling from Emporia (KS) State College.

In 1960, the family moved to Atchison where Jack began his new career as a Guidance Counselor at Atchison Jr/Sr High Schools. Jack retired from USD 409 after 27 years. Jack continued to work for many years on Saturday at the Atchison Sale Barn as a clerk.

Jack was a loyal KU Basketball fan and rooted for the Kansas City Royals. As a couple, he and Janie played in a ‘couples’ Bridge Club with 2 other couples for over 50 years. Jack also enjoyed playing Pinochle.
Jack was a 68 year member of the M. W. Grand Lodge of Kansas, 50 year member of the Atchison American Legion Post #6, Atchison Area Retired School personnel, life member of the Abdallah Shrine of Kansas City and member of the Atchison United Methodist Church.

Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janie, of the home; one son, Mike Kelly, Atchison; two daughters, Diana Moxley and Sheila Antes (Leroy), Atchison; 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and one due in December.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and three great grandchildren.
