James C. "Jim"  Murray
James C. Murray, 79 of Atchison KS died on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A Memorial Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Craig Lantz officiating. The body has been cremated according to his wishes and burial of cremated remains will follow the service at the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service on Saturday, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 400 S. 6th, Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or St. Croix Hospice and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave, Atchison who is handling the arrangements. Jim was born on March 23, 1939 in Leavenworth, KS the son of Lester C. and Maude (Bishop) Murray. He graduated from Atchison High School in 1957 and served in the Army National Guard of Kansas from January 1959 to January, 1965. Jim had worked as an order clerk for Blish-Mize Company, as an automotive assembler for Kenworth, a salesman at Nies Furniture, and then as a plant manager for Anacon Foods, Atchison, KS. He was an active member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where he had served on the Church Council. Mr. Murray was a member of the Elks, and Pineview County Club. Jim enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, watching sporting events and old time movies. His greatest joy was attending and participating in his children, grandsons’ and great grandson’s activities.

He was married to Alice M. Thomas on June 28, 1968. Mrs. Murray survives of their home. Additional survivors include a son, Douglas Murray, Overland Park, KS, three daughters, Katherine (Mike) Mikkelson, Stilwell, KS, Kimberly (Dan) Faulkner, Marysville, KS, and Kelly (Mark) Whitfield, Emporia, KS, six grandsons, Matt Murray, Drew ( Lizzy) Mikkelson, Tyler Mikkelson, Dustin Faulkner, Braeton Faulkner, and Mitch Whitfield, and great grandson, Hudson Mikkelson. His parents, one brother, Lester Murray and a sister-in law, Agnes Leahy preceded him in death.
