Alice Marie Wessel, 75, of Effingham, KS, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Holton Hospital, Holton, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, February 12, 2018 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Effingham, KS, with Father Benjamin Tremmel, OSB as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM, Sunday, February 11, 2018 with visitation following until 8:00 PM at the church. Alice will lie-in-state from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, at the Becker Chapel 402 3rd St., Effingham, KS prior to the visitation. Memorials are suggested to St. Ann’s Catholic Church or Effingham Newsleaf and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, who is handling the arrangements. Alice was born January 16, 1943 in Atchison County, KS, the daughter of Gerard “Hardy” and Ruth (Canderia) Wohletz. She graduated from Atchison County Community High School. Alice was mainly a housewife but had also worked for LFM in the office and Atchison Leather Products and Berger Company as a cutter and sewer. She was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church, serving on the Altar Society, Happy Hour Club and Winsum Dozen Bunco Club. Alice enjoyed sewing and quilting, gardening and attending events of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Alice married Jerry Wessel on February 4, 1961 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Effingham, KS; he preceded her in death on May 10, 2006. Survivors include a son, Mike Wessel, Effingham, KS, two daughters; Theresa and Gary Cattrell, Nortonville, KS, Margaret and Bruce Diehl, Wichita, KS, two brothers; Louis Wohletz, Lyndon, KS, Leo and Jan Wohletz, Denton, KS, a sister, Judy and Rex Logan, Eskridge, KS, three grandsons, Jason Cattrell, Randy (Alicia) Cattrell, Kevin (Ashley) Diehl and a great grandson, Ryan Keith.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.
