Anna Rachel (VanHorn) Sowers, 97, of Atchison, KS died Monday, January 22, 2018 at her home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, Jan. 27th, 2018 at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Hansen officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Friday, Jan. 26th, 2018 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are requested to the Carol Baptist Church Mission Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.
Anna was born on Jan. 28, 1920 in Atchison Kansas the daughter of Robert L. and Clara Paulina Anna (Teichmann) VanHorn. She was a housewife and homemaker. She was the oldest member of the Carol Baptist Church, Atchison and enjoyed crocheting, doing cross word and word search puzzles, playing the guitar and gardening. She had formerly attended the East Side Baptist Church, St. Joseph, MO for several years. Anna had been born again as a Christian in 1947 and was saved listening to “Back to the Bible” under Theodore Epp.
She was married to James B. Sowers, Jr. on Sept. 10, 1940. Mr. Sowers preceded her in death on Mar. 29, 1978. Additional survivors include three sons, Bradley K. (Sharon) Sowers, Atchison, KS, David L. (Debbie) Sowers, St. Joseph, MO, Jerry D. Sowers, Atchison, KS, and two daughters, Anna M. (Harvey) Montgomery, Elkton, SD, and Nancy L. (Delbert) Klassen, Bingham Lake, MN , a sister, Stella Carr, Atchison, KS, fourteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Her parents, husband, a son, Neal D. Sowers, two brothers, Charlie and Arthur VanHorn and three sisters, Pearl Lentz, Ellen Riddle, and Cora Thorpe, two grandchildren, Lawrence A. Klassen and Martha E. Ellis preceded her in death.
