Gary Wayne Gilliland, 68, of Atchison KS died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at his home.
Private family services were held on Thursday morning, the body has been cremated, and no visitation will be held according to his wishes. Memorial contributions in his memory are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Gary was born on Nov. 13, 1948 in Horton, KS the son of Everett and Dorothy (Bidding) Gilliland. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1966. Gary was a carpenter and did all around the home repair and owned and operated his business call “Jack of All Trades”. He enjoyed gardening, canning what he grew and playing pool.

Survivors include his companion of many years, Tamara Mies, of the home, a son, Jody Gilliland and Gayla (Wells), St. Joseph, MO, a daughter Tina (Clarence) Bowers, St. Joseph, MO, three brothers; David (Susan) Gilliland, Atchison, KS, Mark (Helen) Gilliland, Coco Beach, FL, and Ronald (Tammy) Gilliland, Atchison, KS, four sisters; Janice (Dennis) Heusi, Effingham, KS, Nancy Noel and Doug McIntire, Little Rock, AR, Sandra (Jim) Weaver, Muscotah, KS, and Pam (Denny) Lorenz, Shawnee, KS, five grandchildren; Alexandra R. Wells, Addison L. Hughes, Jessica Casey, Clarina and Grace Bowers, and eight great grandchildren. His parents and son Toby Gilliland Schrader preceded him in death.
