Melvin Merrel Myers, 88, Lancaster, Kansas passed away on Sunday, Feb. 26th, 2017 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital, Hiawatha, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, with Rev. Matt Broxterman officiating. Burial will follow in the Alderson Cemetery, in the Good Intent Community. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 28th, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lancaster United Methodist Church or the Alderson Cemetery and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Melvin was born on April 4, 1928 in Atchison, KS the son of the late Merrel and Edna (Myer) Myers. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1946. Melvin held offices and served in many capacities at the Lancaster United Methodist Church for 66 years. He served on the Lancaster School Board for several years. Melvin farmed for 10 years and then worked at Blish-Mize-Sillman for 35 years. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, having visited all 50 states, Canada and Mexico; and most of all his grandchildren.

Melvin married Lois Hines on July 30, 1950 in the Lancaster United Methodist Church; she survives of the home in Lancaster, KS. Additional survivors include two daughters, Nancy Myers, Leavenworth, KS; Lori (Mark) Boos; two sons, David (Deborah) Myers; and Kevin (Lisa) Myers; two grandchildren, Hannah (Cory) Eckert; Paige Boos (fiancé Lane Chew), Lancaster, KS; and two step-grandchildren, Sarah and Raymond Felton. His parents and son Duane Myers preceded him in death.
