Ruth Ellen Marie Lutz–Lanter, 84, Atchison, KS, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016, at Atchison Hospital, Atchison, KS, surrounded by her family.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 2, 2017, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS, with Rev. Russ Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at the Horton Cemetery, Horton, KS. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Everest Christian Church, Mayo’s Clinic or American Lung Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Ruth Ellen was born June 14, 1932 in rural Atchison County, the daughter of Carl and Marie (Deichen) Lutz, Sr. She attended the Atchison Schools. She worked as a Medical Assistant for family physicians in Everest and Atchison, KS. Ruth Ellen was a member of the Everest Christian Church, Everest, KS, where she was active in many ministries including Christian Women’s Fellowship. She also attended First Christian Church of Atchison, KS. Ruth Ellen enjoyed, sewing, cooking and gardening, but she especially loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ruth Ellen married Lloyd Lanter on August 19, 1951 at Everest Christian Church. They were active in the farming community. He preceded her in death on August 10, 2010. She is survived by a son, Edward and Alice Lanter, Atchison, KS, two daughters, Sharon and Dwight Locke, Atchison, KS, Sandra and Steven Handke, Horton, KS, a brother, Albert Lutz, Atchison, KS, two sisters, Virginia Lacy, Atchison, KS, Rosie Shrout, Atchison, KS, nine grandchildren, five step grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren and five step great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded by her parents, a brother, Carl Lutz, Jr., and a sister Juanita Barclay.
