Ellis John "EJ"  Porter
Ellis John “E.J.” Porter, 62, of Atchison, KS formerly of Colorado died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the Atchison Hospital.

Memorial services will be 7:00 pm on Monday, Sept. 26th, 2016 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm on Monday until time of service and then following the service until 8:30 pm at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to help with final expenses and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Ellis was born on December 5, 1953 in Colorado Springs, CO the son of Marion and Esther (Sherfy) Porter. He graduated from high school in Colorado and received a B.S. degree from McPherson College, McPherson, KS in Accounting. E.J. was an associate for Wal-Mart for 28 years, and was presently working as department manager at the Atchison Wal-Mart Store. He had just moved to Atchison in July of this year from Colorado. E.J. had served as treasurer for the Home Owners Association in Aurora, CO, was an avid Denver Bronco’s Fan, collected hats and coffee mugs. He enjoyed playing golf, telling jokes, was an avid history, movie and Star Trek buff. EJ was an outdoorsman and taught mountain climbing in Colorado.

He was married to Angel Smith on June 9, 2003 in LaPlata, Maryland. Mrs. Porter survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons, Ben (Theresa) Porter, West Texas, TX, and Chris Porter, Waco, TX, a step son, Mikal (Amanda) Fitzpatrick, Atchison, KS, and a step-daughter, Tabitha (Shaun) Cash, Atchison, KS, a brother, Prentice Porter, Woodland Park, CO, one grandchild, Caleb Porter, and nine step grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.
