Dorothy M. Berger, age 94, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Medicalodge in Atchison, KS.
There will be a private service with family at Mount Vernon Cemetery at a later date. The Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.
Dorothy was born April 26, 1921, at 127 N. Terrace in Atchison, KS, the daughter of Albert C. and Minnie Kuntz Berger. She was a 1939 graduate of Atchison High School. She attended Lindenwood College, St. Charles, Mo., for two years and graduated Cum Laude in 1943 from the University of Kansas with a B.A. degree in Spanish. She later graduated from the National University of Mexico, Mexico City and Academia Comercial, Mexico City.
She spent three and a half years as Secretary of the Foreign Trade Committee of the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. She worked for the Department of State in Washington D.C., the American Embassy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the Central Intelligence Agency in Asuncion, Paraguay. She later returned to Kansas City where she worked for the Strachan Shipping Co. as General Manager. She joined her brother A.C. Robert Berger at Atchison Leather Products Co. in 1966 as Secretary-Treasurer. She retired in 1973 and lived in Kansas City, Mo. on the County Club Plaza. She moved to Atchison in 2010.
She was a long time member of The Seventh Church of Christ Scientist, KC, Mo., a member of the PEO Sisterhood, and active in her Spanish Club in Kansas City, Mo.
She is survived by a brother A.C. Robert Berger, Atchison, two nieces and seven nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Walter E. Berger, and a sister, Marian L. Haupt.
