Esther F. “Tootie” Brown, 92, of Atchison KS died Sunday, January 10, 2016 at her home.

She has been cremated and no services will be held according to her wishes. Private family Interment of her remains will be in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Nortonville at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Esther F. Schneider was born on June 4, 1923 in Nortonville, KS the daughter of Henry and Esther (Mair) Schneider. She graduated from Nortonville High School in 1941. Esther worked at an early age for the NEKS Telephone Company as an operator, then during World War II as a telegraph operator for Santa Fe Railroad. She later worked for 18 years as a clerk for the Lansing School Board. She enjoyed yard work, watching and feeding birds and squirrels. Esther was married three times, first to Bud Fowler, they later divorced, then Vernon Mauldin in 1953, they also later divorced, and then she married Robert Brown, he preceded her in death in 1977. Survivors include two sons; Tim Fowler, of the home, Danny (Sherry) Mauldin, Farley, MO, a sister, Doris Weishaar, Nortonville, KS and five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a niece and several nephews. Her parents, a son; Greg Mauldin, and two sisters; Becky Hopkins and Marian Cretin also preceded her in death.
