Rudolph H. "Rudy"  Rockey
Rudolph (Rudy) Rockey, 85, of Atchison, Kansas died Monday, October 5th, 2015.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 10th, 2015 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, Kansas, with ministers Don Payne and Don Harter, officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 12:30-2:00. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Garden , Atchison, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Community of Christ Church, Atchison and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences and memories may be sent online at www.beckerdyer.com
Rudy was born on February 21, 1930 in Robinson, Kansas, the son of Oliver and Effie (Bolinger) Rockey. He attended school in Robinson, graduating from Robinson High School in 1949 where he was an outstanding athlete and star basketball player. After graduation, Rudy served in the National Guard in Hiawatha, Kansas and played on several basketball and baseball teams. Rudy also coached Atchison Senior A’s baseball for many years.
Rudy owned and operated a garage in Denton, Kansas and later Rockey’s Service in Atchison. After he retired in 1992, he worked with the golf crew at Bellevue Country Club. He loved his ‘big mower’, enjoying his time working and playing golf at Bellevue. Rudy was an avid sports fan, especially football and NASCAR, and spent many summers water skiing and boating with friends and family at various lakes.
Rudy married Judith (Judy) Williams on June 7, 1959, and they lived their entire married life in Atchison. He was an active member of the Community of Christ Church in Atchison, was a member of Bellevue Country Club, former member of the Atchison Chamber of Commerce, and the Elks in Atchison and Moose Club in St. Joseph, MO.
Survivors include his wife, Judy, of the home, and a daughter, Lynn Finn (Brian), Olathe, KS, two grandchildren, Conor Finn and Reagan Finn, and one sister, Rose (Gene) Howard, Hiawatha, Kansas. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Louise (Alfred) Watson, Ruby (Ray) Edsall, and brothers, Charles, Lyle, Chad, Jim and Richard Rockey. Rudy will be missed by many because he was loved by many.
