Miriam A. Kaighin, 96, of Atchison, KS passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, MO.

Funeral service will be 2:30 pm Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS, with Pastor Richard Castaneda officiating. Family will receive friends prior to the service. Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday August 31, 2015 at Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison, KS. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Miriam was born December 2, 1918 in Atchison, KS the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Drimmel) Young, Sr. She graduated from Atchison High School. Miriam was very proud being a farmer’s wife. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lancaster, KS, JOY Sunday school class, Atchison Home Demonstration Unit for over seventy years, Zonta, Atchison Historical Society, various quilting clubs, making foreign relief quilts and volunteered at the Cray Museum.

Miriam A. Young married A. Lester Kaighin on April 8, 1942 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Atchison, KS. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1992. She is survived by a daughter, Kristin Amaro, Kansas City, MO, two sisters; JoAnn (Bud) Kautz, Atchison, KS, Bonnie (Delus) Ricklefs, Bendena, KS, brother in law, Jimmy (Gayle) Kaighin, Tonganoxie, KS, two grandsons, Shawn (Tiffany) Amaro, Joel Amaro, her pride and joy, great granddaughter, Kaia Amaro all of Kansas City, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Eugene, Frances, Arthur Jr., a sister, Emogene Kautz.
