Obituary for Jack Lee Artman

Jack Lee Artman, 71, of Atchison, Kansas died Monday, March 3rd, 2014 at the Medicalodge of Atchison.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, March 10th, 2014 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Wild Horse Cemetery, McLouth, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, March 9th, 2014 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Jack was born on March 13th, 1942 in Tonganoxie, KS, the seventh of nine children of Earl and Ethel (Swain) Artman. He attended Atchison Schools and was a truck driver and then a heavy equipment operator working for Operating Engineers, in Kansas City, and also owned and operated Artman Trucking and Equipment, Atchison. He was an associate member of the American Legion, and a member of the Operators Union Local 101. Mr. Artman enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, watching western movies, operating his various heavy equipment machines, and especially his children, and grandchildren.

He was married to Caroline Janice Miller on Sept. 1, 1963. They were later divorced. Jack was later married to Charlene Louise Goodman on Aug. 31, 1974 and they divorced in 1991. Survivors include three sons, Kenneth D. Hartman, II,, Atchison, KS, Brian L. Artman, Kansas City, MO, and Jack L.(Jeanette Flory) Artman, Jr, Atchison, KS, four daughters, Kim J. Backer, Robinson, KS., Michelle L. (Kenny) Belden, Hamlin, KS, Sabrena Hager, Rushville, MO, Julie L. Kuhnert (ShannonBoffman), Atchison, KS, two brothers, Lee Roy Artman, Pleasanton, KS, and Jerry D. “Digger” Artman, Braymer, MO, and five sisters, Bonnie (Gene) Scott, Lawrence, KS, Betty (Frank) Seeger-Baker, Kansas City, KS, Shirley Joann Chapman, Braymer, MO, Darlene (Fred) Hagen, Manhattan, KS, and Sharon Henderson, Deming, NM; twenty- two grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren.

His parents, a son, Matthew Blaine Artman, two grandchildren, one great grandson, two son-in-laws, Derek Kuhnert, and Tony Zacharias also preceded him in death.
